Mayor Seeks Public Participation And Feedback; Will Hold Open Forums
Mayor Dana L. Redd today announced that the transition reports received from her Transition Team is now ready to view on the City's website. Camden residents can view the full reports by clicking on the bolded and underlined committee names below and email their feedback to Transition@ci.camden.nj.us.
"The transition team did an excellent job preparing the reports and I thank them for their time and efforts," said Mayor Redd. "I want Camden residents to know that these are strictly recommendations and not a final blueprint to how my administration will proceed during the next four years. In the coming weeks, I will begin the process of engaging resident feedback by having open public forums in each ward in Camden. The strength of our City lies within our children, our families, small businesses, our neighborhoods - and I fully intend to keep them engaged."
The transition team created five subcommittees and each group worked with the co-chairs to develop policy proposals for consideration by Mayor Redd's administration. Some of the recommendations from the committee's include:
Housing and Homelessness Committee
1. Host an "open for business" meeting with developers, both for- and non-profit
2. Organize a "summit" for homeless providers
3. Create task force to investigate ways to streamline government
Clean, Green and Infrastructure Committee
1. Examine implementation of Abandoned Properties Act
2. Announce city-wide cleanup
3. Implement "eye in the sky" program
Economic Development Committee
1. Create a Mayor's economic development team
2. Create a Mayor's business advisory council
Family Wellness Committee
1. Issue Mayoral Pledge and Wellness Campaign
2. Establish Health Advisory Council
Youth Development Committee
1. Assess the Youth Development Council
2. Conduct an inventory of youth development agencies
3. Organize a forum of youth development leaders
"During the last several weeks, I, along with members of my administration, have worked tirelessly on addressing the fiscal crisis that has impacted our current FY2010 and proposed FY2011 budget resulting from major cuts and reductions in State aid," Mayor Redd said. "But that has not deterred me from my main focus - Camden's youth, families, and neighborhoods. Camden, are you with me! I urge you to view the reports and send me your feedback. Working together, we will move Camden forward."
