Incorporated in New Jersey in 1987, LAEDA's mission is to promote the economic development of low- and moderate-income persons in Camden City. Entrepreneurial Development Training PROJECT This nine-week intensive curriculum provides low and moderate income persons with business training, assistance in writing business plans and starting businesses. Intensive classroom training consists of management, business planning, market analysis, business law, financing, bookkeeping, accounting, personnel, banking services, insurance and licenses. Support services include personal and motivational training, personal counseling and case management. Entrepreneurial graduates have created approximately 135 businesses and 310 jobs in the past six years. Businesses include construction contractors, cleaning services, day care centers, hair salons, computer sales and services, clothing manufacturing, specialty retailers, and office support services.
Neighborhood Commercial Revitalization PROGRAM LAEDA is the only organization in Camden involved in a neighborhood-based commercial redevelopment. To achieve its mission, LAEDA searches for blighted properties, conducts feasibility studies for properties that have potential for rehabilitation and job creation, rehabilitates them, procures tenants, obtains financing and contracts for construction.
