CAMDEN – With excessive heat conditions expected for most of the week, Mayor Dana L. Redd would like to remind Camden residents that the City’s Community Centers are available to residents as a stop-in site to provide relief from the heat.  The City spray pools have also been turned on for the summer and the pools are also now open for the season (check schedule below).  Residents should also remember to check in on elderly neighbors who might be living alone.

The City has two public pools, one in North Camden located next to the North Camden Community Center at 6th and Erie Streets, and the other in Centerville located at the Isabel Miller Community Center at 8th Street and Carl Miller Boulevard.

The pool located at the North Camden Community Center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. for children 15 and under; and from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. for ages 16 and over.  It is closed on Monday and Tuesday for maintenance.

Residents are strongly urged to refrain from turning on fire hydrants.  Opening/turning on fire hydrants is illegal and jeopardizes public safety because it lowers water pressure.  Tampering with a fire hydrant is a federal offence.  It is also a state and local offense that can lead to a $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail.  Residents are highly encouraged to report any open/turned on fire hydrants to the Camden Police Department at 856-757-7482 or to United Water’s emergency number at 856-635-1496 before 4:00 p.m. or 856-488-2041 after 4:00 p.m.
