Mayor Victor Carstarphen launched “Camden Strong” in June 2021.  The initiative focuses on tackling blight and a series of goals outlined in Mayor Carstarphen’s First 100 Days and Beyond Plan.  The program calls for the implementation of targeted activities aimed at curbing illegal dumping, improving community health, eliminating unsafe structures, bolstering public safety, and responding to other nuisance concerns impacting the Camden community.  As a part of Camden Strong, a series of neighborhood cleanups (Camden Strong-Clean Camden Campaign), public space restoration projects, street light repair projects, street sweeping programs, the removal of abandoned vehicles, and citywide demolition projects support the Mayor’s holistic strategy to improve the quality of life citywide.

The Camden Strong-Clean Camden Campaign takes place throughout the spring, summer, and fall with more than a dozen neighborhood cleanups and cemetery cleanups in every area of the city.  The City of Camden Department of Public Works is on-site to pick up debris including large bulk trash items, The city works alongside residents, volunteers, corporate partners, and community stakeholders to clean the city streets, business corridors, parks and open spaces while enhancing community pride.  At each event, Camden residents are be able to obtain information relating to recycling, e-waste, trash disposal, and litter prevention in addition to other City programs.

The complete list of Camden Strong cleanups can be found by clicking the “Cleanup Schedule” button on the left of this page.  Those interested in volunteering for Mayor Carstarphen’s cleanup events can call the Office of the Mayor at 856-757-7200 or email camdenclean@ci.camden.nj.us
